Slack: review notifications, approvals and link previews

The VersoDocs Slack app posts review activity to the channels you pick, previews VersoDocs links with their Current version and approvers, and finds approved documents with /versodocs. Requested reviewers can approve straight from the message. Decisions are still recorded in VersoDocs, with the same rules as in the app.

On Free, channels receive the key review events (below); Team unlocks every event and the review buttons.

Connect Slack

Organization admins, in Settings → Integrations:

  1. Connect Slack and approve the install in Slack. One Slack workspace per VersoDocs organization.
  2. For each VersoDocs workspace, choose a public channel (one per workspace) and tick the events to post. The bot posts without being invited.
  3. Save. New activity posts from then on; nothing is back-filled.

Disconnect from the same page, or uninstall the app in Slack: VersoDocs notices and stops posting.

Approve from Slack (Team+)

proposal.opened messages carry Approve and Request changes buttons. Clicking one opens a short form (an optional comment when approving, what needs to change when requesting changes), then records your verdict. Team+

  • Who can use them: a Slack account linked to a VersoDocs member of the organization who is a requested reviewer on that proposal. The first click on an unlinked account replies privately with a Link your VersoDocs account button: sign in, confirm, done. Slack emails are never used to identify you. Unlink in Settings → Personal or with /versodocs unlink.
  • What it records: your own human verdict, marked via Slack, exactly as if you had clicked it in VersoDocs. Required approvals, auto-publish and notifications behave the same.
  • E-signature workspaces: when approving requires re-authentication, Approve becomes a link that opens the proposal in VersoDocs to sign there.

Link previews

Paste a VersoDocs document link in any channel the app can see and it unfurls with the title, workspace, Current version and approvers, or Draft if it was never published.

Details are shown only for documents in non-private workspaces of the organization connected to that Slack workspace. Links to private workspaces, other organizations or unknown documents get a generic VersoDocs card with no content.

Without the app: incoming webhook

Prefer not to install an app? Create a Slack incoming webhook for a channel and paste its https://hooks.slack.com/… URL as a webhook in workspace Developer settings → Webhooks. The format is detected automatically and events post as formatted messages, with the same per-plan events as above. No buttons, previews or slash command. Microsoft Teams works the same way.

Permissions and data

  • The app asks to post messages (including to public channels it hasn't joined), read and unfurl VersoDocs links, run /versodocs, list public channels for the channel picker, and read user profiles (name and email) to show who you are linking on the confirmation page. Identity always comes from the explicit account link, never from the email.
  • It never reads channel history. Its bot token is encrypted at rest and removed when you disconnect or uninstall.
